Certo Certotrop 6×9 vintage folding camera, in complete time-warp condition from the 1930s. This has the top spec Carl Zeiss Tessar 10.5cm f3.5 lens, which goes from f3.5 to f22. There were 4 lenses available, with the top 2 lenses both Tessars, a f4.5 and this f3.5. The lens is free of fungus and dust and is incredibly clean for a camera that is nearly 100 years old. The lens also has some Rise and Shift movements, with the zero positions the white dots as shown in the photos. This means you can adjust the verticals when shooting architecture. The lens panel is also removable to allow for the fitment of different lenses – a remarkable innovation in its day. The lens panel slides forward on chrome runners, and the quality and shine on the chrome is quite honestly remarkable, with no pitting or corrosion anywhere. This demonstrates the incredible quality of German camera manufacturing in the 1930s in Dresden, before it was destroyed during WWII. The shutter speeds all work as expected. The only tiny issue is that when moving from 1/10th sec to 1/25th sec or faster, the lens speed dial sometimes stops at 1/10th and takes a little fiddling to move to 1/25th or faster – but not always. But all shutter speeds can be accessed, and all speeds appear correct. The metal body of the camera is very weighty, and the black leather is in excellent condition, with no marks, scratches or peeling anywhere. The catches for the front and rear panels also work well. Also includes a Rado 6×9 roll film holder in good condition with dark slide, a 6×4.5 metal mask, and 7 film sheet holders (6 in very good condition and numbered), and, finally, a black cloth to assist with focusing and framing on the rear glass plate. Added a photo of the Repton Bridge at Stoke Park, on expired film, but still shows incredible detail and contrast. I have been accurate as I can in the evaluation and the descriptions, and have priced it accordingly.
